In recent years, we have succeeded in implementing a number of attractive and pioneering construction projects to extend the campus for our employees. We are continuing this success story with two architectural competitions. The challenge was that the buildings must fit into the fabric of the campus, yet be original, sustainable, functional and truly adidas.

Due to the company's continuing growth, our current space will no longer be sufficient in the coming years. In order to meet the future requirement for appropriate workplaces, a new office buildings for over 2,000 people is to be built until the end of 2018 at the World of Sports. There are also plans to construct a restaurant and event center.


When considering the tasks at hand, it is important to meet all the requirements defined to date and to find individual architectural solutions that not only measure up to the image and values of the adidas Group but also have a high level of functionality and flexibility.

The appropriate application of brand values and how they are perceived externally plays an important role in all new buildings. Particular attention must also be paid to sustainability and a great operational functionality. Though all the buildings have individual architecture and represent different functions, the World of Sports as a whole must convey and align with the brand values of the adidas Group.

The adidas Group aims to offer its employees a place of work that gives them the greatest possible opportunities for flexibility, creativity and collaboration – with the aim of being the best workplace in the world.

To bring the buildings to fruition, two competitions were developed to design the new Southeast Office building and the Meet & Eat building.


The first design competition was for the new office building which would need to accommodate over 2,000 employees in a state of the art work space. The building is envisaged to work as the image for adidas headquarters and stand out as a clear architectural symbol beyond the campus. Almost 200 architects applied for the competition and after careful selection 30 participants were selected to put forward designs for the office building.


The second competition was developed to allow applicants to submit designs for a building to incorporate meeting and catering facilities to host the growing employee at the World of Sports campus. Over 160 architects applied for the competition and after careful selection 30 participants were selected to design the building next to the already defined new office building.
