Response to proposals from the Play Fair 2008 Campaign
Herzogenaurach, 9 December 2008 – In April 2008, the Play Fair 2008 Campaign, a working group involving the Maquila Solidarity Network, the International Textile, Garment and Leather Workers Federation (ITGLWF), the Clean Clothes Campaign and the International Trade Union Confederation issued the report ‘Clearing the Hurdles’. In the report specific steps are proposed to overcome issues that have hindered progress on worker rights in the sportswear industry.
The content of the report and its recommendations were subject of a workshop which was hosted and facilitated by the ITGLWF in Hongkong in June 2008. During this workshop we promised to provide a comprehensive response to the recommendations as they were raised in the 'Clearing the Hurdles' report.
The attached file outlines our general position on each of the proposals and indicates which of those we can fully support, which we support in part (but require further in-depth engagement) and those we cannot support.
