Sergio Garcia Strengthens Relationship with TaylorMade-adidas Golf

Global Golf Superstar Will Switch to TaylorMade Clubs, Maxfli Balls and adidas Headwear and Continue to Wear adidas Golf Apparel and Footwear

Paris, October 9th, 2002—Global golf superstar Sergio Garcia, one of the most talented and recognizable golfers in the world, has joined TaylorMade-adidas Golf’s team of tour staff professionals. Garcia will play TaylorMade branded golf clubs and Maxfli branded golf balls. In addition, he will switch to adidas headwear; and will continue to wear adidas golf apparel and footwear, as he has since turning professional in 1999.

Garcia will feature the TaylorMade logo on his bag and the adidas logo on the front of his cap at the Trophee Lancome in Paris next week, where he is defending champion.

Currently number five in the Official World Golf Rankings, Garcia has won three times on the PGA Tour, four times on the PGA European Tour and numerous amateur tournaments, including the 1998 British Amateur Championship, and played for Europe’s 1999 and 2002 Ryder Cup teams.

“I’m very excited about deepening my relationship with TaylorMade-adidas golf, given the company’s history of creating high performance and innovative products,” said Garcia. “Combining TaylorMade and Maxfli with my current adidas association was only natural, and I’m looking forward to expanding what’s already a great partnership.” Added Garcia, “I’ve loved the adidas brand since I started playing soccer as a boy.”

“This demonstrates the outstanding synergies possible between the TaylorMade, Maxfli and adidas brands,” said Mark King, president and CEO of TaylorMade-adidas Golf. “Sergio’s ability and his spirit for the game are wonderfully consistent with the brand values of TaylorMade, Maxfli and adidas. It’s a match made in heaven, in our opinion—his phenomenal skill with the best performance golf brands in the world.”

TaylorMade Golf has led the golf industry’s technological evolution since being founded in 1979. In 1998 the company joined with adidas Golf, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of adidas-Salomon AG.
