adidas and Kobe Bryant Agree Not to Extend Sponsorship Agreement

July 15, 2002

Amsterdam, July 15, 2002 - adidas-Salomon AG and Kobe Bryant announced today they have mutually agreed not to exercise a two-year extension to their sponsorship agreement. The decision, which was reached amicably, means the relationship between adidas and Kobe has ended this summer.

This decision will allow adidas and Kobe to separately pursue new marketing opportunities and strategies. Kobe will play in a variety of footwear brands next season while he takes the time to evaluate future opportunities. "We wish Kobe well in his future endeavors and continued success in the NBA," said Michael Riehl, adidas' Head of Global Sports Marketing. "adidas appreciates Kobe's efforts to promote the adidas brand over the last few years."

"I am thankful for the company's support over the last six years," stated Bryant. "I have enjoyed my experience with adidas and wish them all the best as they continue to build their basketball business."
