adidas sets the standard at Euro 2000™
Zinedine Zidane and World Champions France triumph once again...wearing adidas
Herzogenaurach, 05/07/2000 - The remarkable Golden Goal winner that handed Euro 2000™ glory to France was scored by David Trezeguet wearing the soccer shoe that set the tournament alight, the adidas EQUIPMENT Predator® Precision.
Once again, adidas, the world's number one soccer brand, has demonstrated its position at the heart of the game. A number of technical innovations were developed and employed to ensure that the leading players in Europe performed to the highest possible standards at Euro 2000™.
Over a quarter of all goals at the finals were scored by players wearing the EQUIPMENT Predator® Precision shoe*. Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert finished the tournament as joint top scorer with five goals, and was closely followed by Portugal's Nuno Gomes with four and Slovenian striker Zlatko Zahovic who netted three times. All wore Predator® Precision.
As at World Cup '98, adidas played an integral role in France's historic victory, providing the Federation Française de Football with apparel for the entire team, the coaches and support staff. adidas also supplied the Predator® Precision soccer shoes with which David Trezeguet and the most influential player of the tournament, playmaker Zinedine Zidane, scored vital goals.
At Euro 2000™, adidas was also the official apparel supplier to no less than eight of the sixteen competing teams - Germany, France, Spain, Sweden, Romania, Yugoslavia, Turkey and Slovenia.
Furthermore, every goal at the tournament was scored with the adidas Equipment Terrestra Silverstream, the official matchball of Euro 2000™. Softer, faster and more durable, the Terrestra Silverstream was engineered to further enhance the performances of such top-class players as Zidane, Kluivert, Beckham and Del Piero.
The men in black also benefited from adidas' technological approach to the design and production of its sporting apparel. Referees and their assistants all wore apparel that was specifically designed by adidas for use during EURO 2000™ and provided the exact same types of temperature and climate control technologies that benefited the players themselves.
As official tournament supplier, adidas also provided apparel and footwear for every one of the 4,600 stewards and 3,200 volunteers plus over 1,000 ball boys and support staff that made the tournament an enormous logistical as well as footballing success.
