The success story of TaylorMade began in 1978. Until this point of time there had only been a few innovations in the history of Golf. The Golf clubs and balls had remained unchanged for a long time. New ideas were not easily settling in the long tradition of Golf.
Gary Adams was a passionate Golf player and his “Impossible” was to hit the ball as far as possible. During many tests he discovered that the ball would fly a long distance if you hit it with a Golf club made of metal. Until then, the usual Golf club was made of Persimon or multi-layered wood. Gary Adams had the idea to create a Metal Driver, today known as “Metalwood”. In 1978 he met Ron Streck, a PGA Golf professional, and convinced him and other Golf professionals to use the new driver. Soon the triumph of the “Metalwood” began and Gary Adams became very famous among Golf players. His aim was no longer to hit the ball as far as he could, he would rather develop a Golf club that fits every player individually. That is why Gary Adams founded the TaylorMade Golf Cooperation in Mc Henry (Illinois) in 1979. The continuous success of the “Metalwood” increased the impact of TaylorMade and the company became one of the most successful manufacturers of Golf products. TaylorMade is part of the adidas Group since 1997.
