The eyes of the world will be on South Africa in 2010 but the eyes of every South African will be on Bafana Bafana, the country’s national team. A diverse country of 11 tribes and 11 languages will stand as one behind their team and this has served as the inspiration behind the new South Africa kit for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Incorporating 11 threads that symbolise the country’s diversity in unity and modern interpretations of traditional South African artwork, the new home jersey celebrates the pride of the host nation by displaying the centre of the national flag on its front. The collar features a unique handcrafted pattern inspired by local artisans from each of South Africa’s tribes. The national flag also adorns the back neck to further inspire and unite players and fans.

In addition to the South Africa jersey, adidas presented its Unite Mzansi Unite (UMU) campaign in November 2009 a project that will inspire all South Africans to unite in celebration behind the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ and the national team.

The UMU campaign will inspire South Africans to unite as a nation by wearing yellow, the colour of the new Bafana Bafana 2010 FIFA World Cup™ home jersey. For this campaign; adidas has created a giant jersey (size 60m x 48m) as a platform and an enabler for South Africans to unite and show their support. The giant jersey is set to go on a tour of South Africa starting November 2009 via a huge adidas branded truck. The giant jersey tour will give the entire nation, from school children to celebrities, the opportunity to sign the giant jersey as a demonstration of their support.
