Sustainability review 2009

We launched our Green Company targets for 2015 including a commitment to a 30% relative cut in carbon emissions.

This review covering our performance in 2009 is the tenth social and environmental report we have produced.

The adidas Group again ranked 'Industry Leader' and 'Global Supersector Leader' in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

In an independent study of companies making running shoes, we were rated best at managing social and environmental issues.

Our supplier monitoring programme has been extended to include the golf apparel and accessories manufacturer Ashworth, which is now part of the adidas Group.

We issued revised guidelines for our suppliers on how they should best manage labour and health and safety issues.

We took steps to ensure that all our on-field and licensed products will meet the London 2012 Organising Committee’s sustainability criteria.

We are working with our suppliers to ensure that none of the leather we purchase comes from cattle raised in illegally deforested areas of the Amazon rainforest.
